The General Theory Of Employment, Interest And Money (5th Impression, Dust Jacket, Not Ex-library)

When this book first appeared in 1936, its ideas were excitingly new, and the Economist magazine said admiringly "What Mr Keynes is building is in total something wholly new". The Times reassured readers that "The book abounds in lucid argument, witty and illuminating digression, historical analogy, satire and pointed political judgment (sic)". Any student of economics may therefore be encouraged to tackle this seminal book in the hope of finding it readable and enjoyable as well as informative. John Maynard Keynes, 1st Baron Keynes (1883-1946), was a British economist, whose ideas fundamentally changed the theory and practice of macroeconomics and the economic policies of governments. Originally trained in mathematics, he built on and greatly refined earlier work on the causes of business cycles, and was one of the most influential economists of the 20th century. His ideas are the basis for the school of thought known as Keynesian economics, and its various offshoots. Our book is fortunate in retaining its dust jacket, though this is quite badly worn and torn with a degree of frank loss. The book itself, however, bound in blue cloth with title etc in gilt on the spine, shows few signs of exterior wear - some light shelf wear to top & tail of spine, and evidence of a bad bump to the top rear corner, but without damage (final 70 pages are a little creased at that top corner). Inside, the binding is firm with no loose pages; pages are bright with some light pencilled annotations. A faint residue of a previous owner's name on the front fep, and a pencilled list of 'books that must be read' on the rear dust jacket flap.
