Frontispiece plate of Paul 111 is tissue protected as are some others. Usual full index at the back. 340pp. Early cultural history beginning at the end of the 14th century, but concentrating on the High Renaissance as the sub-title indicates. 6 chapters culminating interestingly in one on Agostino Chigi, the Roman banker. The author was Professor of Roman Topography and a great authority on the mapping of the city. This copy PS39.99
