Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Full title being ............ "The Holy War: Made By Shaddai Upon Diabolus, for the Regaining of the Metropolis of the World, Or, the Losing and Taking Again of The Town of Mansoul." This version is "An Entire New and Correct Edition, illustrated with Notes, Explanatory, Experimental, and Practical, in the same manner as those lately added to The Pilgrim's Progress, by W MASON." "This early modern English novel, written in the form of an allegory, tells the story of the town "Mansoul" (Man's soul). Though this town is perfect and bears the image of Shaddai (Almighty), it is deceived to rebel and throw off his gracious rule, replacing it instead with the rule of Diabolus. Though Mansoul has rejected the Kingship of Shaddai, he sends his son Emmanuel to reclaim it." [From the relevant Wikipedia page] Comprising viii, 338pp "The Holy War", 32pp "The Life and Death of Mr John Bunyan", 24pp "The History of Joseph", plus various other intriguing pages. Hardback, poor condition. Both covers are detached, with the marbled leather being wholly worn away in places. Part of the banded spine cover is also missing. A previous owner's name, and date 1806, shows on the front endpapers, which have occasional marks and stains. Rear endpapers, and possibly the last text pages, are missing. The block itself remain good, and apart from natural age discolouration, the text pages, plates and fold-out, are mostly clean, wholly legible, with only occasional marks and stains.
