As far back as 1849 Henry Charles Harrod took an unpretentious grocer's shop in Brompton, and modestly founded what was destined to become the most fashionable and complete shopping centre that wit of man and power of capital in this wonderful 20th century could devise.' The book was published to commemorate 60 years of progress and it is issued again, 80 years later, at a time when Harrods can report continued progress to the same standards as in the age of elegance at the beginning of the century.
