The Itinerary of the Iwakura Embassy in Britain by D. W. Anthony, G. H. Healey published by University of Sheffield, Centre for Japanese Studies, (1987). In very good condition, hardly any shelf wear. Rare copy of an academic paper concerning the itinerary of the Iwakura Embassy in Britain in 1872, which is held by mostly universities and national libraries. The Iwakura Mission or Iwakura Embassy (Yan Cang Shi Jie Tuan , Iwakura Shisetsudan) was a Japanese diplomatic voyage to the United States and Europe conducted between 1871 and 1873 by leading statesmen and scholars of the Meiji period. Although it was not the only such mission, it is the most well-known and possibly most significant in terms of its impact on the modernization of Japan after a long period of isolation from the West. The book contains a detailed itinerary and maps of the journey, and a Japanese reference list of British names.
