The New Oxford History Of Music - Volume 1
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
This book is the first in a series of 11 volumes planned to replace the Oxford History of Music, first published in six volumes under the general editorship of Sir Henry Hadow between 1901 and 1905. The New Oxford History of Music was therefore not a revision of the older work, but was planned as an entirely new survey of music from the earliest times down to comparatively recent years, including not only the achievements of the Western world but also the contributions made by eastern civilizations and primitive societies. The examination of this immense field is the work of a large number of contributors, English and foreign. This is a 1960 reprint of the 1957 original publication. Dust jacket worn at corners and edges but the book is sound and pages clear and unmarked.
