The Pilots of Pomona, a story of the Orkney Islands, by Robert Leighton. With six page illustrations by John Leighton. Published by Blackie & Son Limited, London, in 1899. Worn leather cover with faded title and author on cover and spine. Painted images on front cover and spine. Pages are browned with some stains, but text is readable. Binding is wearing away in some places, particularly at the cover pages. School attendance prize sticker on the inside front cover, dated 1900. The Pilots of Pomona is the first long work of Scottish author and journalist Robert Leighton. He was a writer of "boy's fiction", specialising in adventure stories, and an editor of juvenile magazines, including the children's literary magazine Young Folks.
