This is a much sought after rare 1964 first edition of a delightful children's book with wonderful illustrations by Sevin Unel the book is in very good condition all the pages are clean and crisp just light spotting on the very ends of some pages no marks or inscriptions the spine is tight and secure the dust jacket shows signs of spotting to the back and light rubbing on the top edge ( see pics ) the jacket is unclipped showing the original selling price overall a very good copy that will enhance anybody's book collection In the centre of a pine-forest surrounded by a ring of ice-capped mountains grows a young Pine Prince. Beside him, a lovely Silver Birch springs up. They fall in love; but the other trees disapprove of the match and call a woodcutter to chop down the silver birch. From grief, the Pine Prince falls to the ground beside her, and they are both carried off to a timber-yard. This is only the beginning of their adventures. The two trees are bought by an old woodcarver, who transforms them into two beautiful creatures: a proud black horse and a delicate silver-white doe. Still they love each other, and spread happiness round them as long as they can be together - with the other animals in the woodcarver's workshop, on the merry-go-round of a circus, in a junkyard and finally in a children's playground. At last, as wood-smoke drifting back over a pine forest, they go home together. Children who enjoy fairy stories - especially those of Hans Christian Andersen - will read this one with delight. Its haunting atmosphere is caught exactly in the illustrations of Sevin Unel
