Front cover has stamped design framing pasted on title and vignette printed in colours and gold. Corners and edges much worn and bumped, 5cm split in spine. Cover detached, binding loose. Two plates detached, each with chipped edges, one with 5cm and one with 10cm tear. One page of sheet music (for Sleeping Beauty) missing. Slight foxing to edges of pages. Contains: - Ye Interestynge Storie of Cinderella and ye Lyttel Glasse Slyppere - The Fayre One with the Golden Locks - The Sleeping Beauty, or, the Enchanted Palace - Ye Pathetic Ballad of ye Ladye Ouncebelle and Lord Lovelle. Lavishly illustrated volume with 24 full colour plates, and 8 pages with ballad texts by Francis Davis and Tennyson. Musical arrangements of texts on facing pages (Sleeping Beauty missing). Illustrations are in medieval revival style, with arts and crafts touches. They present a transition between the Pre-Raphaelite style of Dante Gabriel Rosetti and the Aesthetic movement, simplified for commercial production. An interesting example of the marketing of medievalism for the mass market, still striking in spite of its condition.
