The Spyflyers - Captain W.E. Johns. First Edition 1933 Illustrated by Howard Leigh. Condition: This is an ex-library copy (Brigstock Branch) and has stamps and a lending record sheet stuck to the inside of the cover board. Covers - both front and back boards are faded, marked and edge scuffed. The spine binding is severely faded. The book title on the cover board has been roughly overwritten with a black felt-tip pen. Internally the binding is intact but loose. The illustration pages are loose (and one is missing) and there are handwritten names inside the front and back of the book. There is no dustjacket but a synopsis of the story has been stuck into the front of the book which looks as if it may have been cut from a dustjacket. Capt. Johns may have been a very prolific author but this is a very rare example of his work. It is particularly interesting as the story concerns the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War and the author was able to look back to and incorporate aspects of his own first-hand experiences with the RFC at that time.
