Joseph Vecchi. The Tavern is My Drum. My Autobiography. Odhams, 1948. VG cond. No markings. Cloth covers only slightly faded. No dj. Flamboyant inscr. in ink on fep. 8 plates of b & w ph. Frontspiece ph. of the author. Preface, A Dish of Life, by Negley Farson. The author had a colourful life. Though a restauranteur by trade much of his story is political as, though an Italian and learning his trade in London, he was in St Petersburg by 1914 and much of this Memoir deals with this period of his life. After the war and revolution he returned to London and ran a successful and fashionable restaurant, the Hungaria, there. The book ends in 1945, not an auspicious time for catering. interesting insights into the high life of the first half of the 20th century. This copy PS19.99
