Published by Macmillan in 1902, this is the "Globe" edition of the complete works of Edmund Spenser. Spenser was an English poet best known for The Faerie Queene, an epic poem and fantastical allegory celebrating the Tudor dynasty and Elizabeth I. He is recognized as one of the premier craftsmen of nascent Modern English verse, and is often considered one of the greatest poets in the English language. Condition: Embossed green boards with gilt lettering to spine. Spine ends rubbed and corners slightly bumped. Bottom and long edge, rough-cut. Plain endpapers. University of Bristol bookplate to paste-down. Cracking to hinges at endpapers. Some browning to pages commensurate with age, but overall text clear and unmarked. 736pp + publisher's catalogue.
