Gooseberry 'Captivator' is a Canadian-bred variety which is super hardy and particularly heavy cropping, producing excellent yields of sweet but also perfectly tart deep pink berries in summer. Virtually spine-free stems enable easy picking from spreading, gently drooping branches. Perfect for eating fresh or as an addition to puddings and desserts, also makes a lovely jam. Easy to grow and reliable, Gooseberry 'Captivator' is mainly trouble-free and shows excellent resistance to mildew and leaf spot. Plant gooseberry bushes in an open sunny position on any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate a generous amount of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Remove any shoots or dormant buds from the base of the plant as these will produce unwanted suckers later on. Goosberries should be planted at a distance of 1.5m (5') apart at their original depth which is indicated by a mark left on the stem by the nursery soil.
