All four volumes. Condition Note: The dustcovers have some marks, wear, and discolouration - the top edges particularly which have some crumpling and tiny tears. There is some light spotting on the page edges, but it does not appear to carry across to the page faces - which are clean and bright. The set is in otherwise very good condition. For the Eighth Edition every description has been corrected or rewritten where necessary and many entirely new ones have been included. Volume I contains a series of introductory chapters that provide a concise history of plant introductions to the British Isles, a summary of all the principle cultivation processes and an explanation of the systems of botanical nomenclature. The illustrations are entirely replaned, many taken specially for the volume A mass of accurate information is combined with an informal style to produce a blend of botanical description, horticulture and personal experience that is quite unique. The concise descriptions are accompanied by details of distribution, history, distinctive characteristics and merits, and cultivation.. Test by Sonata
