What is Vardenafil? Vardenafil is taken by men to help treat erectile dysfunction. This is a condition where men have difficulty getting or keeping an erection. It is taken to support sexual performance and help to promote a healthy sexual relationship. Vardenafil is similar in structure to another well known ED treatment called sildenafil, or Viagra. Vardenafil is thought to be more potent than sildenafil so a smaller dose is needed to facilitate an erection, therefore potentially less side effects are experienced. There is also some evidence to show that Vardenafil is more effective in diabetics when compared to other erectile dysfunction medicines. How does it work? Vardenafil is known as PDE5 inhibitors. It works by blocking an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5. This increases the levels and activity of nitric oxide which causes blood vessels to widen leading to better blood flow to the penis and causing an erection. Vardenafil only works when sexually aroused and will help you to get and maintain an erection. It will not have an impact on your libido. What dose of Vardenafil should I take? Vardenafil tablets are available in three different strengths: 5mg, 10mg and 20mg. The dosage which is best for you depends on your general health, any medications you are taking and also how effectively the medication works for you. The 5mg dose is more suitable for men who can't take the higher dosage due to a medical condition, certain medication they are taking or side effect with higher strengths. The 10mg dose is the standard recommended starting dose for people who are taking Vardenafil for the first time. The 20mg dose is suitable for men who find the 10mg dose is not strong enough. Vardenafil should not be taken more than once daily. How do I take Vardenafil? Take one tablet with a full glass of water Vardenafil tends to be less affected by food or alcohol than other ED treatments, therefore can be taken with or without food. However, the effect may be delayed if taken after a high fat meal.
