Veronese - Miti, ritratti, allegorie Veronese. Miti, ritratti, allegorie brings together thirty-two masterpieces from European and American museums and collections that reveal the innovative and distinctive features of Veronese's work, which includes allegories, splendid works produced between the 1570s and 1580s, portraits and mythological scenes, the whole production distinguished by a sumptuous, sensual and vibrant vision. As explained by Giandomenico Romanelli in his essay, "the 'profane' Paolo (mythological, allegorical, literary, ideological, lyrical, portraitist...) also captured the essence of political and religious tensions, architectonic monumentality and theatrical scenography, irony and citation, coded dreams, and the taste for narration, transforming the whole into a splendid figurative fable with humour and lavishness." Curated by Giandomenico Romanelli and Claudio Strinati, the exhibition examines the art of Paolo Veronese by focusing on the artist's unorthodox side. The selection of "profane" paintings, some of which have never been seen in Italy, fully capture the narrative, scenographic and magical qualities (in figurative, fantastic, colouristic, perspective, material terms) of this great Renaissance artist. The monograph - which is the catalogue to the show and an important tool in understanding Veronese's vast and complex innovatory quality - includes essays by Giandomenico Romanelli (Veronese e il suo tempo. The catalogue also contains technical details relating to the paintings (edited by Filippo Pedrocco and Annalisa Scarpa), Veronese itineraries through Venice (Giandomenico Romanelli and Filippo Pedrocco), an artist biography (edited by Filippo Pedrocco) and a bibliography. In very good condition with clear pages, illustrations and soft cover.
