Versailles History And Art Official Guide & Chartres La Cathedrale Et La Ville
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Two mid 20th century guide books on historical French tourist areas. The official guide to Versailles, written by the Head Curator, is dated 1949 and is packed with information on the history of the palace and its grounds. Illustrated with black and white photos. It is written in English. Chartres is in French and dates from 1950. A previous owner has inserted a plan of the metro and the autobus and a black and white postcard of Paris between two of the pages. There is a fold out city plan attached to the back cover and the book is illustrated with black and white photographs. Both books are in good condition given their age and soft cover format. Chartres has a heavily sunned spine with a small tear to the lower front hinge. Its flyleaf and the back of the map have a red strip which has transferred from the covers. Nevertheless, these two volumes are fascinating snapshots into the past.
