Wallpapers is a hard cover book in thick red covers with gold lettering to the spine. The covers are showing some wear and the book is missing its dust cover. The book is 'A History and Illustrated Catalogue Of The Collection Of The Victoria And Albert Museum'. This first edition, published by Philip Wilson Publishers Ltd for Sotheby Publications in Association with the Victoria and Albert Museum features many black and white and colour plates. It includes the history of wallpaper in England from the late fifteenth century to the time of William Morris and in France to the Second Empire, with a section on the Chinese export wallpapers. The wallpapers have been grouped inn three sections: Anonymous Wallpapers and Wallpaper Designs, Pattern Books and Designers. This is a heavy book of 486 pages. A brilliant and comprehensive survey of the decorative arts of wallpapers, compiled and rendered in full context by Charles C. Oman and Jean Hamilton, and a full, extensive bibliography by E.A. Entwisle. There is a dedication in ink to a previous owner on the first free endpaper. The book is in good condition overall with some light foxing to the edges. The pages are clean and bright and the spine is intact.
