Westland: A History
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Used, good condition, soft cover. The Westland story began in 1868 when James Bazeley Petter was given a Yeovil ironmonger's shop as a wedding present. This modest but thriving business became the foundations for what is now Europe's largest manufacturer of helicopters. In 1915, during the First World War, Westland Aircraft Works was formed. It created its own designs for military and civil aircraft; best remembered are the little Widgeon two-seater and the Wapiti general-purpose biplane of the 1920s. During its long life Westland has experienced varying fortunes. Today it works in equal partnership with the Italian Augusta helicopter manufacturer. This book tells the intriguing story of this great Yeovil company and its forebears and illustrates it with over 200 photographs of Westland people, events and products of the last nine decades. There is some creasing to the front corners of the cover and quite a long crease on the back cover. However the binding is sound and the spine is good and the pages are clean and unmarked.
