The art review 'XXe Siecle" began life just before WWII, in 1938, under the direction of Gualtieri di San Lazzaro until 1974. Its purpose was to provide a forum for serious articles about art, artists and their work. The first series ran until 1939, and it was not until 1951 that publication resumed, focusing on the artists of the Ecole de Paris. As well as many photographic reproductions, each issue included lithographs by the artists featured, and are thus very collectable. Issue no. 26 (May 1966) featured Chagall, Giacometti and Kandinsky, among others, and included lithographs by Chagall and Vieira da Silva, as well as full-page colour reproductions of works by Chagall, Picasso, Braque, Kandinsky and several others. The front cover design was by Chagall. Our book is a hardback volume with the original illustrated glossy paper-covered boards, with black lettering to the spine. Front cover illustrated by Marc Chagall. It sadly lacks the Chagall lithograph, but that by Vieira da Silva is still present. Almost no external wear, and inside, the binding is firm and pages clean. A cryptic note at the foot of the front fep is the only blemish. Covers very lightly soiled with age.
