Yesterdays Newport, & "the Way We Were" In Newport (both Signed By Author, With Dust Jackets)

Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Here are two 1st edition copies of works by the well-known son of Newport (Wales), Terry Underwood. Full of photographs, they take the reader from earliest times to 1920 (Yesterdays Newport), and then on to 1950 ("The Way We Were"). Terry Underwood (1929-2023) was a well-known figure in Newport, Wales, where he did a huge amount of work in support of his beloved home town. Mr Underwood, who also launched Newport Pantomime and Musical Society, helped dozens on the path to success, including West End star Jimmy Johnston and singer David Willetts. As an author, he also wrote "Foul Deeds and Suspicious Deaths Around Newport", "The City of Newport: The Gateway to Wales" and "Transporter Bridge Centenary Celebration 1906-2006". Our books are in good general condition, and both retain their dust jackets (one price-clipped, the other with the price obliterated) which have borne the brunt of the external wear, being rather rubbed, softened at edges, and a little discoloured. The books themselves, bound in brown cloth/bonded leather with title etc in gilt on the spines, are in very nice condition to the exterior, and inside, the bindings are firm with no loose pages; all pages are clean and bright; no sign of foxing. Book I is signed by the author on the front fep, Book II on the reverse of the frontispiece street map of Newport. Leslie Thomas contributed a foreword to Book One, Anthony Hopkins to Book Two.
