Quando, nell'agosto del 1925, Gaetano Salvemini attraverso il confine italiano, dirigendosi inizialmente verso la Francia, non immaginava che Mussolini sarebbe rimasto al potere a lungo. Pochi mesi dopo, la situazione cambio drasticamente: Salvemini comprese che per molto tempo non sarebbe stato in grado di rientrare in patria, e che avrebbe dovuto dedicare i successivi vent'anni della sua vita a contrastare la propaganda fascista tra Europa e Stati Uniti. Contrariamente a quanto fecero molti altri antifascisti, non scelse di stabilirsi a Parigi, ma si trasferi a Londra, prima di muovere oltreoceano nella seconda meta degli anni trenta. Concentrandosi sul periodo che va dal 1925 fino al 1934, rimasto fino a oggi sostanzialmente inesplorato in confronto alla ben piu nota fase americana, questo volume colma un'evidente lacuna facendo luce sull'esperienza di Salvemini in esilio nella capitale britannica. Quello che emerge e un periodo di attivita intensa, di elaborazione e di messa in atto di strategie di contrasto al fascismo, al centro della quale vi fu un vero e proprio network britannico, coordinato da un gruppo di infaticabili antifasciste londinesi, che lavorarono fianco a fianco con Salvemini, facendo loro la battaglia contro Mussolini. Attraverso l'analisi di documenti per lo piu inediti, reperiti grazie a una capillare ricerca svolta in archivi italiani, britannici e americani, questo volume si occupa di analizzare le principali attivita svolte da Salvemini e dal suo network nel periodo dell'esilio londinese, i loro passi avanti e le loro battute d'arresto nel contrastare la propaganda fascista d'oltremanica, contribuendo inoltre allo studio della percezione di fascismo e antifascismo in Gran Bretagna.
